Introducing Yourself - 저는 (name)

How to introduce yourself in Korean

How to tell someone your name in Korean:

저는
I
name
name
이에요/예요
am

Use 이에요 when the word before it ends in a consonant, and 예요 when the word before it ends in a vowel.

저는 지수예요.

I am Jisoo.

Here’s how to say “my name is” in Korean, instead of “I am”:

제 이름은
My name
name
name
이에요/예요
is

Sentence example:

제 이름은 지민이에요.

My name is Jimin.

Did you know?

이에요 and 예요 are conjugated forms of the verb 이다, meaning “to be.” This is a very common Korean verb you’ll see used often. For example:

오랜만이에요!

Long time no see!

오랜만
long time since
이에요!
it is!

Just like with other Korean words, there is a more formal version of 이다 that you can use to introduce yourself to people older than you or in formal situations:

입니다 (to be)
